Jakarta Acting Governor, Teguh Setyabudi said the arrangement of the ex-Gg Royal Selatan area is part of a joint effort to make North Jakarta more livable for children and women.

He explained there were previously many illegal semi-permanent buildings that were used as illicit cafes, and prostitution locations and were known as locations for the distribution of unlicensed alcohol, drugs, and crime, causing unrest among locals.
"Together with stakeholders, we have been conducting clean-up action from 2020 to 2023, such as raids on commercial sex workers and liquor, sealing illicit cafes, and cleaning up 150 permanent and semi-permanent buildings," he explained.
Afterward, the Jakarta Government would develop this area into a green open space, a park with public facilities. The North Jakarta Tamhut Sub-agency would also reforest by planting ornamental plants and trees. This arrangement was targeted for completion in mid-2025.
"There will be construction of parks and arrangement of under-rails to beautify the area and support environmental balance for the public interest. This will be ongoing in stages," he added.
He thanked PT KAI for synergizing in the arrangement of the ex-Gang Royal Selatan and hopefully, this cooperation would be sustainable.
"We also want the North Jakarta City administration and residents to maintain this area as a safe and comfortable open space for women and children," he closed.
